ADMISSIONS INFORMATION 2016-17
Bishop McNamara students experience something more than high school, thanks to our culture, teachers, Catholicity, and vision. At McNamara, students can take the time to find their innate spirituality. At McNamara, we facilitate the resources, guidance, and individualized classroom preparation to enable students to go on to great colleges or universities. McNamara students think big as a result of managed class sizes, animated classroom discussions, and ever-available teachers. Here at McNamara, at every possible opportunity, teachers ensure students feel like more than just one more student.
Finally, at McNamara, our students learn how, how to take a chance, how to fall, how to stand back up, and ultimately, how to feel good about themselves no matter what.
Because there is no single factor that determines admission, there are a few aspects to the application process. We ask that an 8th grade applicant complete the following:
- Submit an application. This application can be found on-line or at the school. We would prefer that you submit the application on line if at all possible.
- Sit for the High School Placement Test (HSPT) – (See dates and times below)
- Provide grade school transcripts, report cards and jr. high or elementary standardized test results.

The purpose of this evening is for students to settle the pre-test jitters. Many times students become nervous when taking a placement exam, we want to cure this nervousness by providing students the opportunity to take sample questions and receive the answers to those questions to give them an idea of what to expect on the Placement Test. It is also an opportunity for the students to complete some of the necessary paperwork that they would normally have to complete on the day of the exam. Our goal is to come relaxed and not have to worry about anything other than simply taking the placement exam.
Saturday, January 9th – The High School Placement Test (HSPT) doors open at 7:30 test will begin at 8:30 and will last roughly three hours. Please bring two #2 pencils. No calculators are allowed. If you did not attend the Pre-Test night please bring a completed New Student Application Form with you.
(Please note – if the student is unable to take the test on January 9th due to illness or some other unique circumstance please contact Emily Skelly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 815-933-7620.)
HOW DO I LEARN MORE ABOUT BISHOP MCNAMARA
Shadow Days – Bishop McNamara High School offers 8th grade students the opportunity to experience a day at McNamara with a current student in the form of Shadow Days. A grade school student will be paired with a current McNamara student who is involved in classes and activities similar to the grade school student. Sometimes, requests are made regarding a shadow partner and we do try to honor these requests. During a shadow day, the grade school student will follow the schedule of their host student. Lunch is provided for the grade school student during their visit. We ask that requests for a shadow day be made at least one week in advance of the shadow date.
Would you like to tour McNamara while school is in session?
Beginning on October 10th, and every 2nd Thursday of the month thereafter, Bishop McNamara Catholic High School offers “Experience McNamara.” The “Experience McNamara” visit will begin at 8:30 with an informal breakfast with our Principal, Terry Granger, a tour of the school, and the opportunity to ask Mr. Granger questions about McNamara. The visit will last roughly 90 minutes. The “Experience McNamara” visit is open to all 7th and 8th grade students and their families who are considering Bishop McNamara for their high school education.
