Friday, April 29 is the last day to charge for the school year.

 

There will be no Volleyball open Gym today due to Cheer-leading tryouts. Open Gym will resume next Wednesday 3-5.

 

Congratulations to the Freshman-Sophomore boy's track team. They won the 12 team Watseka Invitational last night with a great team effort.  Winning titles for the Irish were Giavion Mason who won both the high jump and the 400 meter dash, and Ben Kuntz who won the triple jump.  Also winning was the 4 x 800 relay of Edwin Hernandez, Aldo Hernandez,

 Josh Quigley, and Keegan Adamson, and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Ewin, Aldo, Keegan, and Giavion Mason.

The track team is reminded that the bus will leave for St. Anne at 3:00 today.

Congratulations to the track. They finished in 2nd place at the All-Area Meet on Friday.  Event champions included Kevin King in the Long Jump, Jonathan Ward in the High Jump, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Kevin, Jonathan, Ariez Andrew and Tra Speed.  Second places were

 earned by Carolina Quintero in the 3200 meter run, Jonathan Ward in the Long Jump, Ariez Andrew in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Kevin, Jonathan, Ariez, and Trent Harrison.

 

The second half of "Invictus" will be shown today (Monday) after school in the French Room. "Invictus" is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela, who used the South African national SpringBok rugby team as a rallying point of unity for his country divided by racism.

Please take time out of your Saturday to support the Mac Band and M.A.S.S. Band Program! The 5th Annual Band Craft Fair will be Saturday, 9am-3pm. We will have over 40 vendors who will have some pretty amazing things for sale. Buy some raffle tickets, grab lunch, and browse our wonderful vendors! If you need service hours, show up today after school in the gym to help set up, or tomorrow 630am-9am, and 2:30pm-4pm.  Contact Ms. Ruesch is you are able to help!

The Spanish National Honor Society induction has been moved to Sunday May 15th at 7:00pm. This is date change from May 7th.

 

A reminder for sophomores, today you will have lunch in Rooms 15-16 while you learn about the college counseling program Naviance. There will be no homeroom. Don’t forget your lunch, or your laptop. Drinks will be provided.

 

Juniors, Updates to your Naviance accounts are required before you depart for summer recess. Be sure to use spare time in study hall to update your resume and portfolio and add schools to your list.

 

Wear It Blue Day! Friday, April 22nd. $1 to wear blue colors/blue jeans.  If you’d like to bring extra $ for Autism Awareness Items like Bracelets, Lanyards, Puzzle Piece Charms & Ribbons.  Cupcakes and cookies will be for sale at lunches on Friday as well.  Stop by Mrs. Jurkovic’s table during lunch to check it all out!

The project is on Saturday, April 23rd at Perry Farm from 7-12.  Volunteers will be weeding, mulching, planting, painting, and doing any other services that they need, please sign up in Campus Ministry.

All performances are at the Kankakee Junior High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 each at the door, and children 6 and under are free. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not a bad thing to be. Come support your fellow students and earn house points in the process!

 

Applications for Spanish National Honor Society are due back to Sra. Trevino this week.

The Kankakee County Bar Association with Kankakee Community College is happy to invite up to three Junior and/or Senior students to participate in Law Day 2016 on May 6, 2016.  Students interested in a career as an attorney or paralegal can shadow a local attorney at the Kankakee County Courthouse, attend Appellate Court oral arguments and attend a luncheon.

Congratulations to the members of the track who won their events last night. The Irish had 3 double winners:  Faith Provost won both the 800 and 1600 meter runs, Kevin King won both the long jump and the 100 meter dash, and Ricky Esparza won the 1600 meter run and was a member of the victorious 4 x 800 meter relay team that also included Dante Owens-Graves, Edwin Hernandez, and Aldo Hernandez. Parys Daniels won the girl's shotput and Carolina Quintero won the girl's 3200 meter run.  Way to go Irish!

Mrs. Linneman's film series for Scholastic Bowl players and other interested students is moving to Monday next week, for the newest addition to the series.  The film " Midnight in Paris" has Owen Wilson, a confused American writer in Paris, who gets into a mysterious car that transports him back to the Jazz Age of the 1920s, where he meets Salvador Dali, Ernest Hemingway, Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, and other luminaries who help the writer find his way.

The first part of the film will begin at 2:45 on Monday and will not go past 4:00.

Students who are taking summer school driver education at Kankakee High School need to come to room 167 (at Kankakee High) today (Thursday April 7th) after school to turn in their permit receipt and sign up for a classroom time and a driving time. The earlier you are the more options you have to pick a classroom time and a driving time. Parents are allowed to sign up their kids.

 

All Mac Wrestlers need to have your equipment turned in ASAP.

Wrestling end of the year banquet is on Sunday, April 10th, from 5-7 PM in the Cafeteria.

 

GIRLS Volleyball please meet in Mr. Hagemaster’s room 113 Thursday immediately after school to begin preparing for the upcoming season.

 

GIRLS TENNIS: To ALL girls interested in playing tennis in the Fall there will be a brief meeting right after school today in Coach Franco's room C1. No experience necessary! The only thing necessary is a desire to have fun, a competitive spirit and a positive attitude! Go Irish!

Congrats to Irish Baseball on their decisive win over Dwight! The gentlemen won 10-0.

 

Students who are taking summer school driver education at Kankakee High School need to come to room 167 (at Kankakee High) tomorrow (Thursday April 7th) after school to turn in their permit receipt and sign up for a classroom time and a driving time. The earlier you are the more options you have to pick a classroom time and a driving time. Parents are allowed to sign up their kids.

Congratulations to Kevin King! He was the State Champion in the Long Jump at the indoor state meet during the vacation.  The Irish had 4 individuals who earned All-State Honors.  In addition to Kevin, Jonathan Ward placed 3rd in the long jump, Faith Provost placed 5th in the 3200 meter run, and Ariez Andrew placed 7th in the 60 meter dash.  Complete details are on the board in the trophy case.

Congratulations to the boy's track team on winning the 8-team Comet Classic on Saturday. Every team member contributed to help win the team title by just 4 points.  Individual champions for the Irish were Ariez Andrew in the 60 and 200 meter dashes, Jonathan Ward in the high jump, Kevin King in the long jump, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Altravius Speed, Jonathan Ward, Kevin King, and Ariez Andrew.  Complete details of the meet are on display in the trophy case.

 

 Congratulations to the members of the girl's and boy's track teams who have qualified for the indoor state meet.  The Irish will have 5 individuals competing in 7 events.  Jonathan Ward leads the Irish with 4 qualifying performances - the long jump, the high jump, the 60 meter dash, and the 4 x 200 relay.  Ariez Andrew is qualified in 2 events -  the 60 meter dash and the 4 x 200 relay.  Kevin King is qualified in the long jump and the 4 x 200 meter relay.  Altravius Speed is qualified in the 4 x 200 relay.  For the Lady Irish, freshman Faith Provost has qualified in the 3200 meter run.  Good luck to all at state!

The following art students have a piece of art work that will be displayed at KCC’s High School Student Art Show. Many Congratulations to: Norah Bufford, Bailey Theisen, Mariah Sanders, Kathleen Mesenbring, Jordyn Adcock, Allison Lin, and Amanda Lowe.  Their work will be on display from March 1st-March 29th at the KCC Art Gallery which is located in the library.  Stop by and see these beautiful drawings!  Also, there will be an Awards Reception held on March 29th from 6-8pm and all are welcome to attend!

Mrs. Linneman's film series continues today with the first part of the film "Amadeus", based on the life and musical career of the the composer Mozart. “Amadeus" is guaranteed to boost your cultural literacy. Though these films are intended for the Scholastic Bowl Team, all interested students are welcome.  The film will begin at 2: 45 and will not run past 4: 00.

If so come and participate in our annual Red Cross blood drive on March 4th. Signups are now available. If giving blood scares you, or you do not meet the health requirements you can always bring someone to donate on your behalf. Help us reach our goal of 55+ pints this year and participate in a cause that continues to save countless lives every day.

Congrats to the Boys Basketball team on their victory Tuesday. Best of Luck tomorrow!  The team takes on Fieldcrest at Fieldcrest.  Go Irish!!

 

A “hearty” congratulations to the following art students: Kyle Betourne,  Mary Gilmore, Norah Bufford, Evan Jurkovic, Kate Mesenbring, Riley Kuhn, and Lauren Zinanni!

A piece of their art work was selected by a jury from 120 art entries and 9 area high schools to represent our school at Riverside’s Art 4 Heart Show! There will be a reception tonight at the Majestic Theater in Kankakee and everyone is invited to stop in check it out from 5pm-7pm.

 

Attention members of the Scholastic Bowl Team: The Scholastic Bowl team from Joliet Catholic will be here TODAY for a practice match to help prepare for the Regional.  JCA will be here around 3:30 for the match.  Please see Mrs. Linneman today to sign-up so she will be sure there are enough students for this match.  Treats will be provided for both teams.

In the homestretch of Scholastic Bowl season, the Mac Varsity Team is happy to announce their 4th place finish in a field of 11 teams, at the Masonic Tournament on Saturday. The team also won the KCC Matchpoints Tournament on Friday, defeating Grant Park, Beecher, and Kankakee on their way to winning the Matchpoints  trophy for the third consecutive year.

The Varsity Team will have regular practice Monday and Thursday this week. Also, Mrs. Linneman's film series resumes tomorrow Tuesday, with the first part of Spike Lee's critically acclaimed film, Malcolm X.  The film starring Denzel Washington as Malcolm X, shows important stages of the Civil Rights movement, including Malcolm's conversion to non-violence at the end of his life.  The film begins at 2:45 in the French Room, and the first part will not go past 4:00.

 

It's Mardi Gras, so it's time to celebrate before the serious season of Lent. You can show your Mardi Gras spirit by wearing authentic colorful beads from New Orleans.  Necklaces will be available from French students Monday and Tuesday at lunch or from the French Room both days.  Necklaces are just 25 cents each, and are available in six gorgeous colors that you can mix and match.

 

All French students are reminded that they are invited to breakfast tomorrow, Tuesday, at 7: 30 AM in the cafeteria. Hosts for the breakfast are members of the French II class.

Flight "A" 1st - 8th place will be playing in the "TTC" tournament next Wed.  3:00-5:00 pm and Flight "B" 9th - 16th place will play next Thurs. 3:00-5:00 pm. Both will be held in the Library. TTC" will only be meeting THURSDAY this week due to a faculty meetings and phonathons taking place in the Library. Attendance is very important! We will be setting up the placement for the tournament this Thursday based on Challenge Board placement. The TOP 16 PLACES on the Challenge board will be in the 2 day tournament. So far this week the leading "TTC" members on the challenge board are in 1st place James Hu holding on strong and we have in 2nd place showing off his paddle power Mike Kurzejka and then in 3rd place we have Sam Oconnor also holding on strong!! Please congratulate these TTC members when you see them. We will be hosting our VERY 1st "TTC" TOURNAMENT next week Feb. 10th and 11th 3-5 in the Library!! It will be held Friday, Feb. 5th on the Kankakee Community College campus for ALL high school seniors that are undecided on their college plans. This event is NOT for students that are planning to enroll in a four-year transfer program. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Nugent in the Guidance Office. She will explain the audition process, distribute audition packets, check out scripts, and answer any questions that you have about joining our theatre program. Every McNamara student is allowed and encouraged to audition.

  • Students (especially seniors) from this point forward it is going to be extremely busy in the Guidance Office. Please check your e-mails daily and check them often.   • Senior boys interested in going on Kairos are asked to pick up a registration form from Mrs. Bovie. Kairos is March 8-11. Registration will open for juniors on Wed. 1/20
  • Mac Games Society meeting TODAY after school in room 13.
  • Just a reminder Entrepreneurs Club will be meeting Next week on Tuesday immediately after school in room 113.
  • Attention all juniors and seniors: There is a Pay it Forward Ambassadors club meeting Tuesday After school in the Celtic knot, at 2:40 pm. This gives you a chance to show off your leadership roles to the younger grade school students. Any junior or senior is welcome to attend. We would like to see you there.
  • TTC" shirts are still available to order! Please make sure to get your order form and money in to Mrs Franco by Monday. The order will be placed next week. ANYONE ORDERING A "TTC" SHIRT CAN WEAR IT TO SCHOOL WITH UNIFORM PANTS FEB. 10th AND FEB. 11th "TTC" TOURNAMENT DAYS! And of course on any SPIRIT days as well!! Our current leaders on the Challenge Board are in 1st Place and holding strong is James Hu and in 2nd Place holding his paddle high is Mike Kurzejka and now in 3rd Place is Sam Oconnor spinning on the table like no other! GO IRISH! GO TTC
  • Attention, members of the Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team: There has been a change in plans for practice next week. Due to a scheduling conflict for Mrs. Linneman, regular practice will be held Wednesday next week , instead of Thursday.   The conclusion of the film "Gandhi" will be shown after school on Tuesday, as originally planned.

  • Students (especially seniors) from this point forward it is going to be extremely busy in the Guidance Office. Please check your e-mails daily and check them often. This is how the Guidance Office will be communicating important information to you in regards to graduation and various deadlines that will be approaching.
  • Attention all students enrolled in a course with dual credit option...If you have the qualifying score on either ACT or COMPASS, your teacher has given you a two page registration form for KCC. Please return BOTH those pages (with the proper signatures) to your teacher by Friday Jan 15. These forms are for college enrollment and MUST be completed in ink. Forms submitted in pencil will be returned to you. Failure to return the form in to your teacher on/before Friday Jan 15 with proper signature will disqualify you for dual credit. Please note that KCC sets the qualifying scores on ACT or COMPASS. If you took the December ACT and have a qualifying score and are not listed on your teacher's roster of qualifiers, please show Mrs. Nugent your most recent electronic score report. If you do not have the qualifying score for your course, you are not eligible for dual credit. All students in College Study Skills are required to take the dual credit options. There are no qualifying scores for that class. Thank you.
  • Tomorrow is the last day to request a schedule change.
  • If you helped at the canned food packing this past semester and you would like to receive Christian service hours, the form is DUE TOMORROW.

  • Newspaper Meeting in Room 18 afterschool today.  
  • Video games are back in full swing this semester, at the Mac Games Society.  If you like video games, the Mac Games Society likes you. Our first meeting of second semester will be this Friday, January 15th, in room 13. We meet every other Friday, and we hope to see you there.
  • The Kankakee Community College Career Pathway Options (previously Undecided Senior Day) is an opportunity to learn about all the two-year career and technical education degree programs offered at KCC. It will be held Friday, Feb. 5th on the Kankakee Community College campus for ALL high school seniors that are undecided on their college plans. This event is NOT for students that are planning to enroll in a four-year transfer program. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Nugent in the Guidance Office. Permission slips will be available in the Guidance Office.
  • Today Boston College will have their table set up during the lunch hours. The representative that will be with us today is our very own Hailey Corcoran, graduating class of 2015.
  • Here’s what you can wear tomorrow (Friday):

-House shirts as your outer layer. With this in mind bundle up with a long sleeved shirt (or two) or a hoodie underneath

-uniform bottom

-You may dress in your full school uniform if you are not in your House shirt.
