Congrats to the members of the track team who won All-City titles last night:  Jacob Quigley in the 3200 meter run, Taylor Prude in the High Jump, and two time winner Jonathan Ward who won both the long jump and the high jump.  Thanks to everyone who helped work the meet or who came out to support the Irish.  The Irish Relays are this Saturday, and we could use some help.  Anyone willing to help at the Relays should see Mr. Rutter ASAP.

May 12th the Lady Irish Softball team will be honoring their Senior players before the 4:30 game.  Go Irish and thank you, Seniors!

The All-City track meet is here tonight at 4:30.  We are in need of student helpers to help at field events and other areas.  If you are willing to help, see Coach Rutter ASAP.

 

 Congrats to our winners at the Herscher Track and Field Invitational on Friday.  Taylor Prude won both the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Kevin King won the Long Jump, placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash, and anchored the winning 400 relay team that included Andrew Buttle, Zach Valant, and Jonathan Ward who finished 2nd in the Long Jump.

Congratulations to the members of the track team on a great performance at the Seneca Invitational on Friday.  The boys placed 5th out of 16 fueled by two first and two second place finishes. Jonathan Ward won the long jump, with teammate Kevin King taking second place.  They both teamed up with Zach Valant and Andrew Buttle to win the 400 meter relay and place 2nd in the 800 meter relay.  Andrew also took 2nd in the triple jump, while Jonathan placed 2nd in the high jump.  In the girl's meet, Taylor Prude placed 2nd in the High Jump and also placed in the triple jump and long jump.

 

The track team is reminded that they have a meet at Manteno tonight.  The bus will leave right after school.

Students are encouraged to wear blue with their uniform - so blue t-shirt under another color uniform shirt or a blue uniform shirt.  If you would like to donate a $1 to the cause, you can give the money to your morning HR teacher or 1st hour teacher.  This is NOT a jeans day.

The Kaelynn Fay Memorial Scholarship Award is now available! A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one Bishop McNamara student who has shown "Outstanding athletic ability, favorable academic achievement and commitment to helping teammates and classmates do their best for their school" A minimum GPA of a 2.0 is required. Congratulations to the members of the Irish track team who placed first last night in the triangular meet with Coal City and Clifton Central.  The Irish boys won seven events, led by Jonathan Ward who was part of four firsts.  Jonathan won the high jump and long jump, and was also a member of the 400 and 800 meter relays that finished first.  Other members of the relay teams were Zach Valant, Andrew Buttle, and Kevin King.  Ethan Powers won the 3200.  David Osborne won the shotput, and the 3200 meter relay team of Jacob Quigley, Dante Owens-Graves, Cameron Poortinga, and Jack Stam also placed first.  In the girl's meet, Taylor Prude won the high jump and triple jump.

Saturday is the BMCHS Band 4th Annual Craft fair from 9am-3pm in the Mac gymnasium.  Come see all our wonderful vendors!  We will have everything from woodworking, to cupcakes, to jewelry!  The Mac Jazz will be performing at 11 am in the gym balcony, and the Vocal Ambassadors will be performing at 1pm.  Come support your fellow students in the biggest Band fundraiser of the year!

 

Ms. Ruesch is looking for students who need service hours!  The Craft Fair set up will take place Friday at 3 pm in the gymnasium.  Set up should take about an hour, and pizza will be provided!  We also need students to help Saturday at 6:30-9am with the Craft Fair set up, and Saturday 3-4pm for the craft Fair tear down.  If you can do any of these hours, there will be a sign up sheet in the office!

Special Congratulations go to Jack Wang who placed 3rd in Mathematics and advance to the State Competition to take place in April! Congratulations to the Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team. Although the team was eliminated in sectional play on Saturday, the team ends with a super record of 27 wins with only 16 losses.  Congratulations also to Matt Rose and team captain Kevin Kramer who were both named for All-Sectional Honors for their season.

 

Congratulations to the members of the girl's track team who placed at the 9-team Reed-Custer Invitational on Saturday.  Taylor Prude placed 2nd in Long Jump and 3rd in both the Triple Jump and High Jump.  Carolina Quintero placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run.  Taylor Valant, Regan Trevino, Kate Messenbring, and Kaylee Surprenant placed 5th in the 800 Relay, while Taylor Valant also placed 5th in the Triple Jump.

A group of McNamara art students will be included in the annual ART 4 HEART show on Thursday night. The event is sponsored by Riverside Medical Center and promotes the journey to heart health through the eyes of local high school artists. You are invited to attend the reception and awards presentation Thursday night from 5-7pm at the Majestic Theater in Kankakee. Admission is free and there will be snacks, music and an awards presentation.

Congratulations to the Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team in their repeat first place finish at KCC's annual Match Points Tournament on Friday.  The team consisting of Jack Kramer, Maddie Rosendahl, Kayla Ronchetto, Dalton Pachorek, Andrew Buttle, Matt Rose, and team captain Kevin Kramer, combined in wins over Grant Park, Herscher, and Kankakee High School.  In the championship match against Kankakee, Kevin Kramer answered 12 questions correctly on his own.

 

Congratulations to our Wrestlers who competed at State this weekend:  Kyle Betourne placed 2nd at 170 pounds and Zach Lorek place 3rd at 145 pounds.  We are proud of you!

  3. Super big Congrats to our Wrestlers going to State this weekend!!  Mason Sauseda earned a 1st, Hunter Voigt earned a 2nd, Zach Lorek earned a 1st and Kyle Betourne earned a 1st!!  Way to go Irish and best of luck at State!!
  4. All boys interested in coming out for baseball should plan on attending a very short meeting on Thursday, February 19th at 2:45pm in the library.
  5. All Softball Athletes please meet in the cafeteria on Tuesday 2/17 right after school for a 10 minute meeting!
  6. Reminder to all track team members who are not currently participating in another sport:  practice is at 4:00 everyday.  We will see you this afternoon.  Also, anyone planning on participating in track, and who is currently in a winter sport, should have filled out a form.  We are ordering uniforms and sweats today after school.  So, if you would like to have one that fits, you should get to Coach Rutter's office and fill out a form before the end of the day.
  7. Regular practice for the Varsity Scholastic Bowl team will be held Wednesday this week.  All players should check for participation on Friday at KCC, and should sign up if they can compete at the Masonic Tournament on Saturday.
  8. It's Mardi Gras, so it's time to celebrate before the serious season of Lent.  You can show your Mardi Gras, or just plain Bishop McNamara spirit today, by wearing colorful, authentic New Orleans Mardi  Gras beads, available from a French student at lunch, or in the French Room between classes.  Necklaces for 25 cents each are available in six gorgeous colors.
  9. And back by popular demand this year for today only is the dessert crepe sale.  Crepes, a traditional French snack are $1. 00 each, and this year will be served with your choice of strawberry or Nutella filling.  Try one during lunch hour today, and remember, the Nutella may go fast.
  10.  And finally, it's also time for the French secret word game, and everyone is in on it, starting right now.  There is a secret word posted for every hour; just check the signs posted in the halls.   If you' re the first one to say the word to the right person during the right hour, you will win a prize.   The person may be a student, administrator, or a teacher.  The first secret word is "enchante"  (pronounced "on shahn tay").  Say enchante to the right person, and you will win the prize.  Ready, set, go!

Congratulations to Coach John Rutter and the Lady Irish on their 74-39 victory over Beecher last night in the IHSA Regional Championship game. The victory puts the Lady Irish in the IHSA Sectional on Monday night against Stillman Valley at Spring Valley Hall - game time is 7:00 p.m. Best of luck to Coach Rutter and the Lady Irish!

  • Congratulations to the Irish Wrestlers on their performance at the Hawk Classic on Saturday, January 10th!  Mason Sauseda brought home a 1st in 113 pounds, Hunter Voigt a 3rd at 120 pounds, Anthony Wicker a 2nd at 126 pounds, Zach Lorek a 1st at 145 pounds and Kyle Betourne a  1st at 170 pounds!  Kyle was also awarded Outstanding Wrestler.  The wrestlers will compete this weekend at the Mahomet-Seymour Marty Williams Invitational this Saturday.  Go Irish!!

Congratulations to the Irish Scholastic Bowl Team on their performance in the Turnabout Tournament in Bloomington on Saturday. Regular Varsity team players Matt Rose, Keven Kramer, Kayla Ronchetto, and Rachel Peterson, along with freshman Jack Kramer, who competed with Varsity for the first time, combined their knowledge and skills in 8 matches. The team racked up 6 wins for the good guys, with only 2 losses. Team captain Kevin Kramer answered 37 toss-up questions correctly, 10 of them for extra "power" points, and Mrs. Linneman hopes that Jack Kramer will keep watching those documentaries.

  1.  There will be a quick meeting today after school, in campus ministry for all senior boys who went on Kairos last year.

  3. Cinderella! Auditions for the spring musical are tomorrow night at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. If you missed the pre-audition meeting in December, there is a meeting today in Señora Ronchetto’s classroom (room 112) immediately after school. Señora will explain the audition process, distribute audition packets and scripts, and answer any questions that you have about joining our theatre program. Every McNamara student is allowed and encouraged to audition. 
  4. Regular practice for Scholastic Bowl will be held Monday and Wednesday this week.  In addition, Varsity players are reminded to sign up to compete this coming Saturday at the Turnabout Tournament in Bloomington.  See Mrs. Linneman for details.

As the Ceile calendar sale is also a "daily raffle" to all of the purchasers, we want to ensure all names are turned in prior to our biggest daily drawing of the year which is the $5,000 New  Year's drawing. We will draw this name on Wednesday, January 7th so please have all calendars turned in by the 6th!

Football Banquet is tonight at 6pm in the cafeteria!

Scholastic Bowl Team members are reminded that regular practice will be held today after school.  The next practice will take place Monday,Dec 1, after the Thanksgiving Day holidays, with league competition, Tuesday December 2nd at Providence.

Congratulations to the Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team who competed and held their own in a very difficult field of 36 teams on Saturday at Homewood-Flossmoor in their "Kickoff Tournament".  McNamara sent an A Team and a B Team to morning rounds, with reseeding done for afternoon rounds.  Coaches Mrs. Linneman and Mrs. Forberg are still sorting stats for the day, but every student, whether A Team or B team can be proud of the eight matches they played.

The first Ceile Calendar turn-in is tomorrow. If you turn in 8 sold Ceile Calendars you will earn two out of uniform days.   Remember we are also trying to reach our goal for an extra day off school. Keep selling those calendars and if you need extra see Mrs. Liptak in the Advancement Office.

Congratulations to the members of the cross-country team who qualified for the IHSA Sectional this weekend. Elizabeth Stam will be trying to qualify for the State Finals for the 4th time. The entire boy's team also qualified. Members of that team are: Jacob Quigley, Ricky Esparza, Ethan Powers, Dante Owens-Graves, Josh Quigley, Carter Wedig, and Cameron Poortinga. Congratulations to the boy's freshman-sophomore cross-country team on an outstanding performance yesterday at the Amboy Invitational. The meet features 50 different schools, and the Irish finished 3rd overall. Members of the team were Ricky Esparza, Ethan Powers, Dante Owens-Graves, Josh Quigley, Carter Wedig, Cameron Poortinga, and Griffin Smith.

Wednesday will be House Freshmen Induction Day - It will be a house shirt with jeans or sweats day. There will be an assembly with house meetings following.

The boy's freshman-sophomore team won the team title, sweeping the first 3 individual places in the race. Ricky Esparza was the individual champion, followed by Ethan Powers and Dante Owens-Graves. Carter Wedig grabbed the 10th place medal. Josh Quigley, Cameron Poortinga, and Griffin Smith were also part of the championship team. Carolina Quintero won the individual championship in the girl's freshman-sophomore race, and Elizabeth Stam finished 4th in the girl's varsity race.
  5. Juniors and Seniors interested in signing up to be "Green Key" members please come to Mrs. Skelly’s office in Advancement during your lunch hour to sign up and receive some information. She is accepting interested parties through the end of this week.

Irish runners finished 1st-2nd-3rd-4th and 7th to win the team title easily. Ricky Esparza was in the individual champion, followed by Ethan Powers, Dante Owens-Graves, and Damien Cantrell in the next three places. The trophy, photos, and details about the meet are on display in the trophy case.

Elizabeth Stam won her 2nd All-City title with a great race, outkicking a Bradley runner after a neck-and-neck dual throughout the race. Carolina Quintero also had a great race, earning the 4th place medal. In the boy's race, Jacob Quigley, Ricky Esparza, and Ethan Powers finished 4th, 5th, and 6th overall. Thanks to everyone who helped with the meet and came out to support the Irish. It was greatly appreciated.

  7. Irish golfers competed at the Sanctuary in the Providence Invite on Saturday. Mitchell Shirley led the guys with an 80, followed by Lukas Kinstner with an 82 and Tyler Cavender with a 100.
  8. Congrats to the Irish Ladies Tennis on their win Friday night over Rich South. #2 doubles Elizabeth Villagomez and Jennifer Lopez and #3 doubles Paola de la Cruz and Jaahay Medina dominated the courts!

Congratulations to the cross-country team on an outstanding performance last night at the 15 Team Seneca Invitational. The boy's freshmen sophomore team won the team championship easily, with 6 runners earning medals. Ricky Esparza and Ethan Powers led the Irish, placing 5th and 6th. Damien Cantrell, Dante Owens-Graves, Josh Quigley, and Carter Wedig then placed 9-11-13-15. Carolina Quintero took 4th place overall in the girl's freshman-sophomore race. In the varsity races, Jacob Quigley took the 10th place medal, while Elizabeth Stam earned her medal in 11th place.

  4. The boys golf team competed in the Homewood-Flossmoor Invite at Green Gardens Golf Club on Saturday. The 13 team event was won by Lockpoort with a score of 311. The Irish earned a score of 400. Leading the Irish were Lukas Kinstner, who earned a 5th place individual medal with a 78, Mitchell Shirley with an 84 and Tyler Cavender, who shot a 105. Good job guys!

Irish Conditioner last night.  The boy's freshmen-sophomore team
finished an outstanding second to Double A power Illiana Christian.
Ethan Powers and Ricky Esparza finshed 3rd overall with teammates Damien
Cantrell and Dante Owens-Graves right behind in 4th.  Carter Wedig and
Josh Quigley finished the Irish scoring in eighth. Sophomore Carolina
Quintero teamed up with a girl from Manteno to win the girl's
freshman-sophomore race.  Great job, Irish!
