SCHOOL MASS CANCELED for Thursday, January 18th:  Due to a funeral there will be no School Mass this week.

Tuition Tax Credit Program: We will be hosting informational sessions for The State of Illinois Invest in Kids Act (also known as the Tuition Tax Credit Program) prior to the application date of January 31st.  Join us on either January 17 at 6:30pm or January 21 at 1pm to receive updated info, get answers to your questions, and learn about the application process.  If you have any questions about the program, please email us at scholarships@bmcss.org. We also invite you to visit weteachmore.org or empowerillinois.org for information. Please note that all Catholic Education Foundation scholars MUST apply.

 

Book Fair: We are looking for Parent Ambassadors to help with set up and to work at the Book Fair.  Set-up will take place on Thursday, January 25 with preview day on Friday, January 26. The Book Fair event will be held January 28 – January 30.   Please contact Ellyn Barzantny (ebarzantny@yahoo.com) if you are interested in helping.  

 

Open House – Sunday, January 28:  This year the Bishop McNamara Open House for PreK3-8th grade is for current AND prospective families.  We invite you to welcome a new family to attend with you!  BMCS Bradley 12pm-2pm.  BMCS Bourbonnais 12pm-2pm.  BMCS Kankakee 1pm-3pm.

 

Catholic Schools Week: January 28 – February 2. Information on events and activities coming soon.  However, we encourage you to mark your calendar for our 2nd annual ALL SCHOOL MASS that will be held at the BMCS Kankakee site on Monday, January 29 at 9:25am.  All students in grades K-12 will gather to celebrate Mass as ONE school.  The experience is quite moving, and we invite you to join us!

 

FACTS Grant & Aid – The FACTS Grant & Aid website is currently accepting applications to receive financial aid for the 2018-2019 school year.  To apply Go to bishopmac.com.  Select Quick Links from the top menu. Select FACTS Aid to be routed to the official Bishop McNamara FACTS page. All applications MUST be submitted and verified by March 1. Our school will hold a FACTS Tuition Sign-up Night on February 6th at 6:30 pm at the BMCS Bradley site.

Story Tots - Friday, January 12th at 10:30: Parents and grandparents of children age 2-5 are invited to join us for reading and fun at Story Tots!  There is no fee to attend and no need to pre-register. 

 

Donut Day – Friday, January 12:  Donut Day sponsored by the student council is back! Please join us in the gym beginning at 7:15. Donuts $1.00.  Milk & Juice $.50. All proceeds will contribute to the student council goal of purchasing a 3D printer for the maker space.

1st Grade Goods & Services Day: The 1st graders will be hosting their annual Goods and Services Day on Wednesday, December 20. They will be selling a variety of yummy food items and providing a hand spa.  Prices for all goods and services range from 25 cents to $1.   All BMCS students will be able to make their purchases throughout the morning at times designated by their homeroom teachers, so be sure to bring in some money.  (If your child has any food allergies, please make sure he/she knows what items are safe for him/her to eat.)  All proceeds from this day will be used to provide a Merry Christmas to some local families in need.  The 1st graders look forward to serving you!

Mac PAC Butter Braid Pick Up: As a reminder, all Butter Braid orders must be picked up THIS Wednesday, December 20 between 4pm-6pm at the BMCS Kankakee site cafeteria.  Sellers are responsible for pick up and distribution of their orders.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Williams at scbilladeau@yahoo.com

CHRISTMAS CONCERT TONIGHT! – Thursday, Dec. 14 –6:00 pm at Centennial Chapel at ONU. Prek3-6th Grade.
Students are asked to please be in their seats with their classes no later than 5:45 pm.  All students should be dressed in clothing that is appropriate for “church”.  No jeans, shirts with writing, or tennis shoes please.

Band Concert:  The 4th-6th grade band concert will take place TODAY, December 13 at 7pm at the BMCS Kankakee site.  All are welcome to attend!

BMCS Christmas Program: Students PreK3 – 6th grade from the Bourbonnais site and PreK4- 6th grade from the Bradley site will be performing at the BMCS Christmas Program Tomorrow, December 14 at 6pm at Centennial Chapel on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University. All families are welcome to attend!  This is a great way to begin celebrating the holidays!  Students should wear dress clothes to this event. No jeans, shirts with writing, or tennis shoes, please!  All students need to be there by 5:30 pm. They will sit with their assigned teachers until the program begins.

Please note:  All classes will be bussed over to ONU for practice on the morning of the concert (this Thursday, December 14.) Please make sure your child is dressed warmly with a coat, hat and gloves as the weather is expected to be cold.
Concert DVD Order Forms- DVD orders are now due.  Please submit by tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Mac PAC Butter Braid Fundraiser Results!: A big THANK YOU to all of our school families who participated in the Butter Braid fundraiser!  With your help, we sold over 930 Butter Braids and earned over $5,000 for our school!  Mac PAC appreciates all of your efforts and we know the money raised will make a big impact!  The kindergartners were the winners of the incentive with over 175 Butter Braids sold!  Each Kindergarten class will celebrate their victory with ice cream provided by the Mac PAC (date TBD).  As a reminder, all Butter Braid orders must be picked up on Wednesday, December 20 between 4pm-6pm at the BMCS Kankakee site cafeteria.  Sellers are responsible for pick up and distribution of their orders.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Williams at scbilladeau@yahoo.com. 

Christmas Celebrations at BMCS Bradley Site: Instead of individual classroom Christmas parties, there will be Holiday themed movie days for students to enjoy on Thursday, December 21. Parent Ambassadors are needed to help us pop the popcorn, deliver snacks to classes, and to donate movie-themed snacks for mini concession stands for each classroom. Please see the flyer to help with concession donations for your child’s classroom.

Student Council Smencils: The Student Council will be selling Christmas Smencils this week. Smencils are $1 each and will be sold before school each day.

Mac PAC Butter Braid Fundraiser:  Just 1 day left to sell Butter Braid frozen pastries to help each of our school locations with their “Wish List”!  Please be sure to return all Butter Braid order forms and money Wednesday, November 29th to the main office.  Please secure forms and money in an envelope with Butter Braid noted on the outside to help us ensure everything gets to the right place.  Checks should be made payable to BMCS.  If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Williams at scbilladeau@yahoo.com.

Float Prep

Parent Ambassador help is also needed with float building from 8am-Noon on Friday, December 1 at BMCS Bradley.  There is no need to contact anyone if you plan to help.  Please bring your own scissors and/or staple gun, if possible.

Parade Participation

Parents and students are invited to walk with the BMCS float at the Bradley Lighted Christmas Parade on Friday, December 1.  Bishop McNamara’s float number is #24.  Participants should meet up with the float on North Forest Avenue by 5:30 pm. Our float will be judged by 5:45 pm. Parade begins at 6pm.  Each participating family is asked to bring a bag of candy to hand out during the parade.  All participants are encouraged to wear festive Christmas apparel.

The parade will end as we turn North onto Washington Ave. Parents may pick up students on Washington Ave. However, parents are encouraged to stay with children and walk in the parade with our float. Student Council members will be the only children riding on the float. All others will walk alongside.

Grade 7 - 8 Kankakee

Revised Schedule: Junior High has early dismissal today at 12:00.

Jr. High Volleyball: Congratulations to the 8th grade volleyball team in their thrilling win last night against St. George, 27-25, 24-26, 25-23.  Olivia DeLuca had 10 Aces.   Kennedy Ebersole had 5 Kills.  Ally Vandenhout went on a 7 point serving run, and Hanna Thompson added a 9 point run.

Mother/Daughter Skate: The Bishop McNamara Mother/Daughter Skate will take place on Saturday, February 3rd at Ice Valley Arena in Kankakee!  This event is open to all BMCS girls in preschool through 12th grade and their moms and the cost is just $3 per person. For more information including times, please see stop by the Main Office for an invitation flyer.  RSVP is due by Wednesday, January 24th. 

Bass Fishing: Any experienced bass anglers who would like to be a member of the Bass Fishing team are asked to inform Mr. Rutter of your interest by this morning.

Spring Play: Congratulations to the cast of Once Upon a Mattress! If you missed auditions and are interested in being in the show, we are still in need of some additional ensemble/chorus members. Please see or e-mail Mrs. Ronchetto if you would like to be in the show. Every 7th through 12th grade McNamara student is allowed and encouraged to participate. 

Lost & Found: Have you lost a coat?  A sweatshirt?   How about your glasses?   CHECK WITH THE MAIN OFFICE ON THE GLASSES.  Otherwise there is a table set up in the cafeteria.  All remaining items will be donated after today.

Spring Play Auditions: Do you like to sing or dance or act? All 7th through 12th graders are invited and encouraged to audition for this year’s spring musical production of Once Upon a Mattress. Auditions will be held Wednesday, January 17. There is a pre-audition meeting this Wednesday in Mrs. Ronchetto’s classroom (room 112) immediately after school (2:40pm for high school students and 3:05pm for junior high). She will explain the audition process, distribute audition packets, and answer any questions that you have about joining our theatre program. Every BMCS student at the Kankakee site is allowed and encouraged to audition.

Junior High Extended Day: Reminder for junior high extended day.  Due to the Christmas program for PreK thru 6th grade tonight, extended day will end at 4:30pm today. 

Advent Donations: Please continue to bring in donations for Advent.  High school is collecting underwear, socks, gloves, hats and t-shirts.  Junior high has a detailed list the is posted outside Mrs. Bassett’s room.

Grade 9 - 12 Kankakee

Attendance: Teachers please make sure to take attendance 2nd hour. 

Revised Schedule: Today the high school is on a revised schedule due to House Games.  You will attend 1st thru 7th hours on a shortened schedule.  Junior High has early dismissal at 12:00.

House Reporting: Houses are to report to the following areas: Donegal - Knot, Dublin - girl's side of the gym, Killarney - boy's side of the gym, Limerick - black box theater, and Waterford to the cafeteria.

Jr. High Volleyball: Congratulations to the 8th grade volleyball team in their thrilling win last night against St. George, 27-25, 24-26, 25-23.  Olivia DeLuca had 10 Aces.   Kennedy Ebersole had 5 Kills.  Ally Vandenhout went on a 7 point serving run, and Hanna Thompson added a 9 point run.

High School Baseball: High school boys baseball will be having Open Gyms every Friday starting today 1/19/18.  3pm to 4:30pm at House of Sportz. 

Mother/Daughter Skate: The Bishop McNamara Mother/Daughter Skate will take place on Saturday, February 3rd at Ice Valley Arena in Kankakee!  This event is open to all BMCS girls in preschool through 12th grade and their moms and the cost is just $3 per person. For more information including times, please see stop by the Main Office for an invitation flyer.  RSVP is due by Wednesday, January 24th. 

Bass Fishing: Any experienced bass anglers who would like to be a member of the Bass Fishing team are asked to inform Mr. Rutter of your interest by this morning.

Career Pathway Options: Attention Senior students!  Kankakee Community College is offering their Career Pathway Options program, formally known as "Undecided Senior Day" on Friday, Feb. 2nd.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn about all the two-year career and technical education degree programs at Kankakee Community College. It will be held on the Kankakee College campus for ALL high school seniors that are undecided on their college plans including all career center students.  Please see Mrs. McThenia in the Guidance Office for a permission slip to attend.  Deadline to sign up is today.

Varsity Scholastic Bowl:  The Bishop McNamara Varsity Scholastic Bowl team competed in the IHSA regional turnabout tournament on Saturday, finishing with a 4-4 record. Congrats to Jack Kramer who came in 2nd place overall in a field of over 150 competitors.

Tie Day: Reminder today is Tuesday and all high school boys should have ties on.
