  • Special Homecoming Mass Time and Date: Our school system will celebrate masses at their respective sites on Monday, September 25th to kick off Irish Homecoming Week. We hope you will join our school for this mass hosted by our 6th grade class and Father Peeters at 1:30 pm. This mass will take the place of our regularly scheduled Wednesday afternoon mass.
  • Bishop McNamara Progressive Raffle: The Bishop McNamara Progressive Raffle is underway!  There are great incentives for ticket sales! Families who sell 10 or more tickets by Oct. 4 will receive a free raffle ticket entered into the drawing in your name. Families who sell 20 or more will be entered to win a free year of tuition for one student the following year. Sold tickets and payment can be turned in via your child’s Tuesday folder each week.  If you’ve sold all of your tickets and need more, please contact our office.  Thank you for your support!

  • Gratitude Drive-Thru: On September 11th from 8:30 am-9:30 am, our school system will be hosting a Gratitude Drive-Thru for our Community’s first responders and Veterans. Those honored may drive by the front of our school where they will be welcomed with coffee and a breakfast treat. Please extend this invitation to those in your family who serve our community and country.
  • Parent Preview Night – Tuesday, September 12 at 7pm. Come and meet your child’s teachers! Hear about all the exciting things happening in your child’s specific grade.
  • School Pictures – Tuesday, September 12 is school picture day. Please remember this is a “dress up day”. We encourage students to dress in their Sunday best.  Picture packets will be sent home soon.
  • Jeans Day: On Friday, September 15, students may have a jeans day in exchange for       a $2 donation that will be used toward teacher and student incentives throughout the school year.

  • Parent Work Day: On September 19th, we will hold our 1st Parent Workday. Parent workday is a great way to get your hours of service and to meet other school parents. Parents (Grandparents too!) can come to our school beginning at 9:00 am. Teachers will have tasks like laminating, copying, cutting, etc. for parents to do.  We will hold one parent workday each month. Watch your newsletter for other dates.

  • Box Tops: Our schools collect BOX TOPS! These can be found on hundreds of different name brand products!  BOX TOPS are a tremendous help to our schools and classrooms! If you have any, please send them to school with your child and turn them into the office! Don't forget to tell your family and friends to save them for us too!         
  • Spirit Wear Days:  Our next Spirit Wear Day is this Friday, September 18th.  Each Friday of the year we will have a Spirit Wear Day. Your child may wear any style Bishop McNamara Catholic School shirt.  All other uniform guidelines apply.

Welcome back to a brand new year! Each Tuesday this year, your student will bring home a green folder. It will contain important information and a newsletter like this. We are making an exception this week, since we have some very important, time sensitive, material we wish to share with you, we are sending the Tuesday folder home on Thursday. After this week we will be going back to our normal practice of sending information home with the students on Tuesdays. Please read all of the important information and then send the folder back to school the following day. If there is anything we can do for you or questions we can answer, please don’t hesitate to contact our main office!

  • Bishop McNamara Progressive Raffle Kickoff: Join us THIS Friday, August 18, at the Fall Athletic Preview to kick off the biggest fundraiser of the year – the Bishop McNamara Progressive Raffle!  K-8 families can pick up their tickets at the kickoff table near concessions and begin selling right away!  If you don’t pick up your tickets on August 18, they will be sent home in the next Tuesday folder.  Please see the enclosed flyer for answers to FAQs.
  • Spirit Wear Day:  This Friday, August 18 will be your child’s first Spirit Wear day. He/she may wear uniform bottoms with any style Bishop McNamara Catholic School shirt. If your child does not have a spirit wear shirt yet, he/she may wear uniform bottoms with a green or gold shirt this first time. Each Friday we will have a Spirit Day.
  • Eclipse Information: Monday, August 21 is the Solar Eclipse. This day, our students will be learning about the Eclipse and some classes will be watching a LIVE stream on NASA.gov. However, we will not be venturing outside to view it. Our older children will also enjoy inside recess this day so as not to harm eyesight. Younger children will keep their recess times outside since they are scheduled much earlier.

  • Hot Lunch Program: The hot lunch program will begin on Tuesday, September 6.  Until that date, please send your child to school with a cold sack lunch.  Please note there are no microwaves available for student use.
  • Severe Allergies and Medical Conditions: If your child has any sort of SEVERE allergy (especially those requiring the use of an EpiPen) or has a serious medical condition, and you have not informed the school office already, we ask that you please do so immediately.  Please complete the enclosed form and return to the office ASAP.  
  • Ice Cream Social: Join us on Thursday, August 30 for an Ice Cream Social to celebrate the new year. It will be held from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the BMCS Kankakee site cafeteria. Please come out to meet other BMCS families!

Grade 7 - 8 Kankakee

Softball: Shoutout to Leah Wilson and the 7th grade softball team who defeated Peotone yesterday.  Leah struck out 15 batters en route to a complete game shutout as the Irish defeated the Blue Devils 7-0.  Way to go IRISH!

Cross-Country: Congratulations to both the girls' and boys' junior high cross country teams as both teams placed 1st of 7 teams in their home meet last night.  Way to go Irish! 

School Mass: This Thursday, we will have our opening of school Mass at 9:25am. This will be a dress up day for the senior high students. Jr high is in uniform. 

Ice Cream Social: Join us TONIGHT from 6:30pm-7:30pm for an Ice Cream Social to celebrate the new year.  The on-site spirit store will be open on this night, too! 

Grade School Night: Grade school students are invited to attend the Bishop McNamara Grade School Night on Friday, September 8 from 6pm-7:30pm prior to the varsity football game. Admission is free!

Mini-Schedule Night: We will be hosting our junior high Mini-Schedule Night for parents on Wednesday, September 6 at 7pm at the BMCS Kankakee site.  Mini-Schedule Night is designed for you to meet your son or daughter's teachers and to hear the expectations that they have for them in each particular subject area.  

Shadow Days: 8th grade students are strongly encouraged to schedule a Shadow Day!  Students may begin shadowing on September 11.  Please contact Mrs. Emily Skelly at eskelly@bmcss.org to schedule your student's Shadow Day. 

Jeans Day: On Friday, September 15, students may have a jeans day in exchange for a $2 donation that will be used toward teacher and student incentives throughout the year.

Cross-Country: Both junior high XC teams placed 4th in the Beecher Bobcat with partners Chase and Christian Provost placing first for the boys team and partners Addie Langelett and Krista Surprenant and Ellen Latham and Emerson Provost placing in the Top 10 teams.

School Mass: This Thursday (August 31) we will have our opening of school Mass at 9:25am. Junior high is in uniform. All are welcome!

8/17/17 – Thursday

WELCOME BACK!!!!

8th Grade Class of 2017:  Your Graduation pictures are ready to be picked up in the Main Office.  Stop by any time during school office hours.

Do you like to act? Have you always wanted to try acting in a show? Bishop McNamara high school students are invited and encouraged to audition for this year’s fall theatre production of Murder Runs in the Family. No previous acting experience is necessary. There will be a pre-audition meeting on Monday in Mrs. Ronchetto’s classroom (room 112) immediately after school. She will explain the audition process, distribute audition packets, and answer any questions that you have about joining our theatre program. Please see Mrs. Ronchetto if you would like to check out a script to preview the show.

Photo day is next Tuesday the 23rd. Young men are asked to be in school white or green polo or blue or white oxford or a shirt and tie. Young women should be in polos, oxford or dress. No spaghetti straps. Any questions, please ask Mrs. Memenga or Mr. Kennedy
Tomorrow (Friday) will be a spirit day. Wear your regular uniform or a McNamara spirit shirt atop your blue anchor/bottom for junior high and khaki uniform anchor/bottom for senior high. 
Do you need a lock for your locker? We have extras available in the main office. Please see Mrs Demack or Mr. Kennedy. All locks must be school-issued. Anyone needing a combination should see us in the office. 
 
This week the varsity golf team had two matches, with junior Keegan Adamson leading the Irish in both outings, including a stellar 4th place finish at Monday's Crete Monee invitational.

Grade 9 - 12 Kankakee

Golf:  It was a bittersweet night for the Irish golfers at the All-City tournament last night. Junior Keegan Adamson continued his dominance of the area's golfers by being the medalist with a low score of 79, but the Irish team effort fell short by five strokes. 

Homecoming Float:  We need your help with the Homecoming Float!  Any sophomores who are interested in helping should contact Nick Viglia or Max O’Connor ASAP.

Cross Country: Cross-country practice today is at 5:30 at Small Park.

Hurricane Relief: We will be collecting money today for the NCEA - Student to Student - Hurricane Relief Campaign. Donations will be collected in 1st hour and at lunch.

Junior High Cross Country: Congratulations to both our boys and girls Junior High Cross Country teams.  The boys placed first taking 5 of the top 10 spots with Chase Provost and Christian Provost placing first and second.The girls placed first with a perfect score of 15.  Addie Langelett, Ellen Latham, Krista Surprenant, Emerson Provost, and Chloe Cooper took all of the top five places.  Way to go Irish!

7th & 8th Grade:  All 8th graders please bring your novel to Iowa testing today to read if you finish early.  And 7th grade please bring something to do. ALEKS is not an option. 

Dublin House Members: Please go to Ms. Schupp’s classroom immediately after school. The meeting will be super brief.

High School Students:  The Junior High will begin their IOWA testing today and will conclude one week from tomorrow, Thursday – September 28th.  We ask that if you are upstairs in the Jr. High for a study hall or a class that you please be respectful and be quiet in the hallway during the testing times.  We appreciate your cooperation with this.

Volleyball: Thanks again to the Irish invasion that stuck out a 4 1/2 hour volleyball match last night that included 2 thrilling 3 set matches.  The Sophomore team came out victorious last night 15-25, 25-17, 25-22 in the conference opener.  The volleyball team continues conference play tomorrow night at home against Mother McAuley.

Yearbooks:  The Yearbooks have ARRIVED!  You may pick –up your yearbook immediately after school in Mrs. Memenga’s room.

Yearbook Meeting: There will be a Yearbook Staff meeting Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30am in Mrs Memenga's room.  Yearbook staff are reminded the design training will be held Wednesday at 5pm.  Pizza will be provided. 

Tennis Results: Bishop McNamara beat Watseka 6-1.  1 singles- Caroline Peddinghaus (Win), 2 singles- Jacqualyn Hendrichsen (win), 4 singles- Emma Gerth (win), 1 doubles- Caroline Peddinghaus and Ashley Gaytan (win), 2 doubles- Liz Barajas and Abby Richie (win), 3 doubles- Lucy Magiera and Aura Rodriguez (win).

8th Grade Softball: Congratulations to our 8th Grade Softball Team as they defeated Pontiac St. Mary’s 1 – 0 on Saturday!   Great pitching, great defense, and timely hitting secured the victory.   The girls advance to the State Tournament and play Friday at noon against Camp Pointe Central!   Way to go Irish!

2017 Homecoming Court Representatives:  Freshman Olivia Lorenc and Lilia Provost.   Sophomores : Kylie Sullivan and Toryn Provost.  Juniors : Kenna Kleinert and Bridget Azzarelli.  Seniors, there was a tie so 6 reps this year : Moncerrat Calderon, Alex Miller, Hazibeth Morales, Riley Lade, Amanda Graf, and Dominique Vazquez. 

 

Killarney: Has a meeting after school today in the Art Room.

Sophomore Volleyball:  Finished 6th in the Stagg volleyball tournament last weekend with wins over Revis and Lincoln-Way West, and a 3 set loss to Lincoln-Way Central.

House: This Friday is the the Scarecrow and pumpkin decorating contest. See your house head or captain for details. Remember, you'll only regret not getting involved.

Girl's Cross Country:  They won their second team championship in 3 days on Saturday.  After winning the All-City title on Thursday night, they won the 18 team Illiana Christian Invitational on Saturday.  Faith Provost, Eden Rainbolt, and Madison Hamilton finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall.  Kellen Saindon finished 5th in the boy's race.  Details of the meet, photos, and the team trophy are on display in the trophy case.

Juniors/Parade: Juniors who like  to help with the parade float we will be having a meeting after school today in Mrs. Schupp's room.

PSAT:  Sophomores and Juniors are highly encouraged to register for the PSAT test given here the morning of Oct 11. The cost is $16. Please see Mrs. McThenia or Mrs. Nugent with your $16 (cash or check payable to BMCS) to register. There are a limited number of spaces available so first come, first tested. Thank you.

Revised Schedule: Please be advised that we are on a revised schedule for the House Inductions today.  Schedule will be 1st, 2nd,  3rd, 8th, 7th,  4th, 5th, 6th, and then the assembly.

Sophomore Students:  On October 17th, you will have an opportunity to come to the Kankakee Area Career Center and participate in 3, twenty-minute classroom demonstrations of your choice. If you think that you may be interested in attending the Career Center next year please see Mrs. McThenia or Mr. Roney in the Guidance Office.

Bisohp McNamara Writers:  Wouldn’t it be fantastic to see your own script be produced and performed? In December, we will have our third annual Bishop McNamara Winter Theatre Showcase. This will be an evening that showcases the theatrical, as well as writing, talents of Bishop McNamara students. We are hoping that a majority of the scenes presented will be original works written by Bishop McNamara students and staff. Please see Mrs. Ronchetto or your English teacher if you would like the script submission guidelines.

Guyrish: Its that time of year again ! The poms are  looking for senior and junior boys who are interested in doing guyrish, if you are interested please come to the office and sign up! 

PSAT: College bound sophomores and juniors are highly encouraged to register for the PSAT test given here the morning of Oct 11. The cost is $16. Please see Mrs. McThenia or Mrs. Nugent with your $16 (cash or check payable to BMCS) to register. There are a limited number of spaces available so first come, first tested. Thank you.
