Happy Birthday to Eamon O’Brien!!!

Turkey Feast: Students and teachers will gather at lunch for a special celebratory Thanksgiving feast on Friday, November 17. If you volunteered to provide cookies or cupcakes, please drop them off at school on Thursday or Friday morning. Thank you for your generosity!

Advent Project:  Our school will be partnering with the Salvation Army to provide care packages for the homeless. We will also be creating fleece blankets for those in need.  In order to support this endeavor, we are collecting the following items: new adult hats and gloves, personal hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant.  We are also asking each child to bring in a minimum of $2 for the blanket materials.  Thank you in advance for your commitment to Christian service and our community.

o   Monday, November 20 from 1pm-8pm. Early dismissal 11:30am/11:35am. NO BUS HOME. NO EXTENDED DAY.

Mac PAC Butter Braid Fundraiser: Mac PAC is having a Butter Braid pastry fundraiser to help each of our school locations with their “Wish List” and we need your help!  Please see enclosed flier for more information along with the brochure and order form.  Each family is asked to sell at least 4 Butter Braids to help us reach our goal of $7,000!  This fundraiser starts TODAY and runs through November 29th and delivery is just in time for the holidays!  Order forms and money should be turned into the main office – please secure forms and money in an envelope with Butter Braids noted on the outside.  Please note, this fundraiser does not count toward a family’s fundability.  If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Williams at scbilladeau@yahoo.com. 

Turkey Feast: Our school children and faculty will sit down together for a Turkey Feast this Friday, November 17.  All children will be served turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and a roll and butter. Parents who have signed up to serve the meal may come at 11:30am to help set up. All desserts may be dropped off in the morning and put on the counters in the kitchen. Thank you so much for helping make this tradition happen!!

Catholic Ministry Thanksgiving Wine Tasting: The BMCS Catholic Ministry group will be hosting a Thanksgiving Wine Tasting THIS Saturday, November 18 at the BMCS Kankakee site cafeteria.  Funds raised will go toward Kairos scholarships.  For more information or to register, please visit bishopmac.com/catholicministrywinetasting. Mac PAC Meeting: The next Mac PAC meeting will take place THIS WEDNESDAY, November 8 at 7pm at the BMCS Kankakee site.  All parents are welcome to attend to find out how you can get involved with many important school activities!

Veterans Day: Thank you for sending in the names of family member who are Veterans of our country! This week our students will be making cards of thanks for them. We will send the cards and a special treat home with the designated child on Friday.

REMINDER: Lunch Orders are due THIS FRIDAY, Nov 3rd. Please do not order lunch through the lunch menu for the 17th, a separate order form for Turkey Dinner was sent home with the lunch menu. 

IESA Speech Contest: Congratulations to our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who participated in the IESA Speech Contest at Bradley Central on Saturday. Our students were outstanding performers who supported one another and exhibited skilled finesse and sportsmanlike behavior. Miss Czernik, Mrs. Gaca, Mrs. Born, and Mrs. Roney are bursting with pride and we thank our parents, families, and friends who attended for their steadfast support! Our stellar results: 172 first place medals, 38 second place ribbons, and 2 third place ribbons.

Jeans Day THIS FRIDAY: On Friday, November 3rd students at the BMCS Bradley site may have a jeans day in exchange for a $2 donation that will be used for school initiatives.

Early Dismissal THIS FRIDAY: There will be an early dismissal for School Improvement Day this Friday, October 27. Students will be dismissed at 11:30am. Extended Day students must bring a packed lunch this day.

IESA Speech Contest: Speech Contest is this Saturday, October 28. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders should arrive at Bradley Central School (260 N. Wabash Ave., Bradley) one hour before their performance(s). Please wear dress-up attire.  They need to be in their classrooms at Bradley Central at least 20 minutes ahead of time. All students received information last Wednesday with their time slots and room numbers. Please bring extra change for the concession stand. Best wishes to our performers.  We are proud of you!

Move Your Feet to Give a Child a Seat: On Friday, October 20 our student body walked a lap around our school to help raise scholarship dollars that help other students attend Catholic schools in the Diocese of Joliet. Together we raised $844.30! Thank you to all who donated to this worthy cause! Our 6th grade class raised the most with $186.12. They have won a movie afternoon with Mrs. Berg who will even provide them with a free concession stand!

Halloween: On Tuesday, October 31, students will celebrate Halloween! Students may wear their costumes to school on this day.  The Halloween parade will begin at 9am (with a short procession around the school).  Classroom parties will begin at 10am.  Early dismissal at 11:30am.  Extended day is available.

ShamROCK Fest: The 1st annual ShamROCK Fest is on November 3!  There are many Parent Ambassador opportunities that night, too.  If you would like to help, please complete the enclosed form that was sent home last week to select your role and time slot.  If you would like to pre-purchase your tickets with cash or check, please complete the form that was sent home last week and return with payment.  Tickets are limited, so don’t wait to buy yours.  For more information, visit bishopmac.com/shamROCKfest.  Student Council Smencils Sale: Our student council will be selling Smencils (Smelly Pencils) Student Council will sell them before school on October 18, 19 and 20th. They will sell them during lunch October 23rd-27th. The cost is $1.00 each.

 Move Your Feet to Give a Child a Seat: On Friday, October 20 our student body will move their feet to show the community that there are still seats available in our area Catholic schools. We will also be collecting spare change in our classrooms during the month of October. All money collected will be donated to the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) who provides our school children needs-based scholarships. It is just our way of giving back to the organization that helps us so much!

Grade 7 - 8 Kankakee

High School Informational Meetings for Parents: If you were unable to attend our high school Open House on October 29, you are invited to attend one of our informational sessions.  This will be your opportunity to hear about our curriculum, student life, extracurricular activities, financial aid and scholarships.  The sessions will take place in the Advancement Office near the junior high entrance.  Sessions will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 6:30pm, Monday, November 13 at 6:30pm, and Tuesday, November 14 at 6:30pm.  Seating is limited, so please contact Emily Skelly to RSVP at eskelly@bmcss.org or 815-932-7413. 

 

Parent Teacher Conferences: The junior high Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 16 from 2pm-5pm and 6pm-8pm.  Junior high students will be dismissed at 12 Noon.  Extended Day is NOT available.

ONE Shirt Day: Tomorrow is the 1st of the month which means students can wear THIS YEAR'S gray ONE shirt.  All other uniform guidelines apply.  

Immunization Clinic: The Kankakee County Health Dept.  will be holding their final Back to School Immunization Clinic for the 2017/2018 school year on Thursday, November 9th.  For more info see the Main Office.

Shadow Days: 8th grade students are strongly encouraged to schedule a Shadow Day!  Shadow Days give soon-to-be high school students a glimpse of life as a BMCS freshman.  Students are encouraged to schedule their Shadow Day soon due to an earlier High School Placement Test date of December 2.  Please contact Mrs. Emily Skelly at eskelly@bmcss.org to schedule your student's Shadow Day.

Jr. High Cross-Country: Good luck to Chase Provost, Addie Langelett, Ellen Latham and Christian Provost tomorrow at the IESA state cross-country meet!

Rosary: As a faith community, Bishop McNamara Catholic Ministry Office is going to begin offering time to pray the rosary once a week and will be led by Eddie Jurkovic. Students and faculty are welcome to gather in the chapel each Wednesday at 7:40am to pray the rosary together. There will be guides and rosaries available if you are not familiar with the prayer. The first rosary will be said this Wednesday, Oct. 18th. Please join if you can!

Fall Play: The Bishop McNamara fall play, "Murder Runs in the Family," is tonight and Saturday at 7:00pm. Be sure to get your tickets in the Main Office and earn House points for attending.

Hurricane Assistance: This weekend, there is a great opportunity to give back to Hurricane Victims in the US Territory of Puerto Rico. On Saturday from 9am-4pm (or any one or two hour shift during that time) please come sign up in the main office and receive a flyer with more information.

Art Club: Junior High Art Club will take place every Wednesday from 3pm-4pm.  Students can join at any time during the school year.  The fee to join is $5.  All junior high students are welcome!   Please contact Mrs. Crowley with questions at dcrowley@bmcss.org.

Open House: The Bishop McNamara Open House for incoming high school students and parents will take place on Sunday, October 29 from 1pm-3pm.  If you have questions prior to the Open House, please contact Emily Skelly at eskelly@bmcss.org or 815-932-7413.

Shadow Days: 8th grade students are strongly encouraged to schedule a Shadow Day!  Shadow Days give soon-to-be high school students a glimpse of life as a BMCS freshman.  Students may begin shadowing on September 11 and are encouraged to schedule their Shadow Day soon due to an earlier High School Placement Test date of December 2. Please contact Mrs. Emily Skelly at eskelly@bmcss.org to schedule your student’s Shadow Day.

ShamROCK Fest: Tickets are now available for sale for the inaugural fall event, ShamROCK Fest, on November 3!  Tickets are limited, so don’t wait to buy yours.  Purchase your tickets in advance here. (Must be age 21+ to attend.)

Mass Schedule: We are on a Mass Day Schedule today due to an assembly today. 

Butter Braids: The Bishop McNamara butter braid fundraiser has begun! If you and your family need a catalog and order form so you can start selling, please pick one up in the main office. Orders are due by November 29th. 

Football Banquet: Football Banquet will be held on Monday, 11/20 at 6:00 in the school cafeteria.  This is for all levels of football players and families.  Bishop McNamara Football Alumni will provide chicken for banquet but please bring the following items: Seniors and Juniors - entrée dish, Sophomores - water, Gatorade or pop, Freshman -dessert.   Dress is casual and if you have any questions please call Coach Zinanni. 

Donegal Meeting: There will be a Donegal meeting Friday immediately after school. if you can be there but are interested in helping lead or be involved with the tree decorating contest, please come see Sra. Trevino tomorrow.

Dublin House:  There will be a Dublin house meeting immediately after school today in Ms. Schupp’s room! We will discuss both tree decorating and the coming winter games!

Irish Bowling:  We're into the last month of the fall bowling season!  In 5th place was Mo Houlihan.  Alex Medina moved up to 4th, Zeff Duffield was 3rd,  Co-captain Trey Trevino came in 2nd,  and co-captain Josh Granger came through with a 1st place finish!  Andrew Carr put on the most athletically diverse performance,  and Laura Tatroe bowled her highest game of the season!  Remember to satisfy your sweet tooth during lunch by buying some chocolate from YOUR Irish bowlers!

Scholastic Bowl: Congrats to Bishop Mac Scholastic Bowl on their season opener at St. Laurence. Both JV and Varsity competed well. Varsity went 1-2, with a win over St. Francis.

Band Fundraiser: The band program is selling poinsettias to fund raise for new instruments and new music! Please find a band member to order one (or five!). Each poinsettia costs $12. You can also order from Mrs Shinabarger thru 12/4/17. 

VFW Essay Winner: Congratulations to Max O’Connor, Bishop McNamara’s first place “winner” of the 2017 – VFW, “Voice of Democracy” essay contest.  Each year,nearly 40,000 high school students compete for more than $2 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS AND INCENTIVES.  Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on the annual patriotic theme.  This years’s essay topic was “American History : Our Hope for the Future.”  Max will be recording his audio essay at WVLI on Thursday.  Best of luck moving forward, we are proud of you!

No Shave November:  Bishop McNamara will not participate in "No Shave November". All students need to be clean-shaven by tomorrow morning or they are to be sent down to the office 1st hour tomorrow, Wednesday. Although "No Shave November" is definitely a worthy cause, we will not be participating.

Service Opportunity: Volunteers needed for the 27th annual Jingle Bell Run, Sunday, Dec. 3.  Friday, 6 p.m., Dec. 1, at Presence Hospital community room. This is in the back of the hospital.  Organize the material for the run, assemble goody bags and load onto the truck.  This lasts about 2 hours. Free shirt and pizza for participants.  Sunday, 7:30 a.m .-10 a.m. Set up course. Man water stations and mile markers and then bring the stuff in.  Free shirt and pizza.  See Mrs. Demack in Main Office for more info or to sign up.

High School Students: Tomorrow will be the 4th Ceile Calendar turn in. Mrs. Elliott will be in the breezeway at 7:30 a.m. collecting your Ceile money and stubs. Bring in your sold calendars tomorrow morning. The next and last turn in will be Tuesday, December 5th. December 5th is the last day to earn incentives. See Mrs. Elliott if you have questions.  A new incentive is being announced for the Ceile calendar sales. The class with the highest sold percentage of calendars will win an afternoon of bowling at Brookmont Bowl. Keep selling those calendars!
