 “What does it mean?”

It means that the technological changes of the 21^st Century demand that our students must develop skills to become self-motivated, creative thinking problem solvers. It is the school’s responsibility to prepare and guide our students to be the successful leaders of tomorrow.

Bishop McNamara Catholic High School considers the introduction of the 1:1 tablet initiative as a paradigm shift in how our students will be taught. It is a move toward preparing them for the future. Many colleges and universities have made this educational shift and as a college preparatory school, Bishop McNamara Catholic High School has the responsibility to move in the same direction. We have the obligation of preparing our students to not only achieve but to excel in our highly demanding, technologically complex world. We are proud to be leaders in this educational shift as we begin the 1:1 initiative with our freshmen class in the 2009-2010 school year.

Technology has changed every part of our lives. We acquire information, communicate, and learn differently than ever before. Through the use of 1:1 tablet technologies, we will be able to provide experiences otherwise impossible. Our students will be able to sit in on college classroom lectures, listen to world renown speakers, take tours of art museums, experience other cultures, do research and get immediate answers, solve problems and get instant feedback, and collaborate with teachers and peers. In other words, the student will be actively involved in their own learning experience.  These digital resources provide our students with the advantages that they deserve.

With a solid college preparatory curriculum, quality teachers, and the integration of technology, we will help our students become:

• Independent learners who adapt to changes and demonstrate an openness to new ideas and concepts.
• Critical thinkers who demonstrate a curiosity for learning and the ability to use multiple sources and strategies to evaluate and solve problems.
