Grade 7- 8 Kankakee
During a recent homily, I heard Fr. Jason Nesbit, speak of “Ora Et Labora” which defined means “Prayer and Work.” This phrase may also be known as the “Rule of St. Benedict”. St. Benedict was the founder of the Benedictine Monks. As I listened to Fr. Jason’s homily I quickly realized that this phrase “Ora et Labora” describes the summer of 2016. As we proceeded through these months of summer here at Bishop McNamara there has been a tremendous amount of prayer asking for blessings to our efforts as we embark on the regionalization of our local Catholic schools. There has also been a tremendous amount of work completed by administration, faculty, staff in preparation for the upcoming 2016-17 academic year.
I then began to think that “Ora et Labora” is really the essence of what we do as a Catholic school each and every day. We the faculty, staff, and students alike pray and work together daily. The goal for each and every one of the Bishop McNamara students is to assist them along the various steps of their faith journey, as well as assisting them to acquire the necessary skills to succeed and to make an impact in our ever-changing and complicated world. We do this with high expectations, hard work, and through prayer!
We are committed and continually strive towards being a leader in Catholic education by providing a challenging, data-driven curriculum that is infused with Catholic values, taught by highly trained faculty members, which provides all of our students the opportunity to meet their highest potential.
I am extremely excited as we near the beginning of this inaugural year of the “new” Bishop McNamara Catholic School and the opportunities it will present to our school community. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back all of our returning families and certainly offer a warm welcome to all of our new families. We are extremely pleased and excited to mutually share the energy, the spirit, and the Catholic tradition of Bishop McNamara Catholic School.
