Miss Czernik's Classroom
Welcome to Miss Czernik's page! I am the 7th and 8th Grade Reading teacher. I am excited and looking forward to a great year! Highlights include Speech Contest and exciting literature conquests! We take real-life, relatable approaches with everything we read- including examining things from a "Catholic," or Christian, perspective. We will be reading "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck, "Teenagers Preparing for the Real World," by Chad Foster, and "Financial Literacy for Teens" by Chad Foster in seventh grade. In eighth grade we will read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry and "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" by Sean Covey. These are in addition to selections from our literature anthologies (EMC Corporation and McDougal Littell). Informational text articles from msn.com will be utilized to discuss and contemplate national and world events. Each student's opinion matters- and they know that the minute they enter my class.
I am a lifelong resident of Kankakee County and a graduate of St. Martin of Tours Grade School (where I am also a parishioner), a graduate of Bishop McNamara Catholic High School, and a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University. I hold a B.A. in Elementary Education with Language Arts, Social Science, and Middle School Endorsements. This is my 21st year as a Catholic school teacher- for 18 years I taught junior high ELA, SS, and Religion at St. Joseph Catholic School in Bradley. I am proud to carry on the tradition of teaching in a Catholic/ Christian-based environment that my parents provided for my brother and me (and they, themselves experienced). I whole-heartedly believe in it!
7th graders deep in thought as they practice for the
IESA Speech Contest!
Please, all 7th Grade ELA (Language Arts Students) remember to begin memorizing your speeches! We cannot wait until Saturday, November 3 for the contest at Kennedy Middle School! Grades 6-7-8 will be participating. A permission slip will be sent home soon. Speech memorization dates include September 13 (half-script) and October 3 (full script). Everyone has been spectacularly exhibiting "ONE" behavior in choosing partners and selecting scripts! #onematurebunch!

SPIRIT WEAR FRIDAYS
Students may wear a BMCS shirt with their school uniforms on Fridays. Other notes of importance: please keep water bottles handy throughout the day when it is warm, and keep those cell phones off and in our lockers. Thank you very much!
