ABOUT BISHOP McNAMARA

Bishop McNamara Catholic School, a Catholic co-educational school dedicated to maximizing the potential of its students, spiritually, morally, and intellectually is currently accepting applications for a high school English/Literature Teacher. INSTRUCTIONAL EXPECTATIONS

Instructional Expectations Under the general supervision of the school principal, the teacher will:

• Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times.
• Create a vibrant Catholic culture within his or her classroom that is emphasized through the candidate's words, deeds, and actions.
• Facilitate student success and growth in both academics and interpersonal skills.
• Document student progress, activities, and outcomes.
• Actively participate in building committees and/or professional learning communities.
• Utilize available technology to enhance lessons.
• Differentiate instruction to address specific educational needs of individual students.
• Create a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.
• Regularly provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serves as a model in words, actions, speech, and demeanor.
• Develops and administers grade-level high school English/Literature curriculum consistent with diocesan and state goals and objectives.
• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
• Develops detailed daily lesson plans and related instructional materials.
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that best utilize available time for instruction.
• Differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles and needs.
• Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to accommodate individual student needs.
• Continues to acquire professional knowledge and to learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops and professional meetings.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by diocesan and school procedures as well as by applicable laws.
• Encourages parental involvement in student education and ensures effective communication with both students and parents.
• Ensures that student conduct conforms with the Bishop McNamara Catholic School standards and Diocesan policies.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Coordinates with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess curricula.
• Actively participates in faculty meetings, PLCs, and school committees.
• Utilizes available technology to enhance instruction.
• Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
• Understands and adheres to all principles and tenets of the Catholic faith.
• Maintains a lifestyle that is in full accord with Christian teachings, both within and outside of the school environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
• Knowledge of elementary school curricula and concepts.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis procedures, and the formulation of action plans.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
• Ability to use technology to enhance student learning.
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to communicate with all constituents including (but not limited to); school administration, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Licensure: The candidate must be qualified to teach within their curricular expertise at the secondary level and hold a valid Illinois Professional Education License (PEL).
  • Hold minimally a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university within in their curricular area of expertise. Being qualified in another discipline either within the same curricular department or another curricular department would classify the candidate as a preferred candidate.
  • Previous experience in teaching high school English/Literature is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills are essential to success in this position.
