Clarence "Puff" Romary

The football program that is so important to Bishop McNamara Catholic High School was started at St. Patrick high School in 1932 by Clarence “Puff” Romary. He was a star athlete at St. Viator’s College where he lettered for four years in four sports. Shortly after graduation from college, “Puff” was hired at St. Patrick High School as basketball coach and to establish and coach football. For five years at St. Pats he established solid programs in these sports, the Irish basketball team gaining national recognition in 1936. “Puff” was instrumental in establishing our current football stadium in 1960. He and his wife are both deceased. Their four children Judy, Mary, Margaret and Joe are all graduates of St. Patrick Central.
