2018-19 Registration for Current Families: Registration forms for the upcoming 2018-19 school year were mailed to our current families this week. Story Tots: Parents and grandparents of children age 2-5 are invited to join us for reading and fun at Story Tots! The next sessions will take place on Thursday, February 22 at 10am at BMCS Bradley and Friday, February 23 at 10:30am at BMCS Bourbonnais. Story Tots is open to the public, no fee to attend, and no need to pre-register.

 

Soc Hop: A soc hop for 6th-8th grade BMCS students will take place on Friday, February 23 from 7pm-9pm at the BMCS Kankakee site! Admission is $5.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration: Save the date for the Bishop McNamara St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 17 at the Pub at Midtown in Manteno! This week is Catholic Schools Week – Our Catholic Schools Week celebration is in full swing. Please see remaining schedule below:

  • Thursday, February 1st Celebrating Our Community

    • Activities: Students will hear talks from local community members about giving back to their communities.

    • Apparel: Students may wear their class color shirt with uniform bottoms.

      PK3 and PK4: grey, Kindergarten: purple, 1st: red, 2nd: pink, 3rd: yellow, 4th: blue, 5th: orange, 6th: white.                                                                                               

  • Friday, February 2nd: Celebrating Our Faculty, staff, and Students

    • Activities: Trivia game assembly.

    • Apparel: Students may have an out-of- uniform extreme spirit day (similar to Homecoming Parade attire). Accessories must not interfere with learning.

Tuition Tax Credit Program: The application process for the Tuition Tax Credit begins today January 31. If you were unable to attend the informational sessions and have questions, please email us at scholarships@bmcss.org. We also invite you to visit weteachmore.org or empowerillinois.org for information. There will be assistance with the application process available at the Kankakee Site on January 31 from 11:30 – 7:30 as well. Please note that all Catholic Education Foundation scholars MUST apply.

Congrats, Mrs. Elvir!: Please congratulate our 5th/6th grade teacher, Mrs. Esmerelda Elvir on her nomination for University of St. Francis’ Bishop’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her nomination recognizes her as an exemplary teacher and role model who is dedicated to service. We are very proud to have her as part of our faculty!

Bradley Announcements

Band Concert:  The 4th-6th grade band concert will take place TODAY, December 13 at 7pm at the BMCS Kankakee site.  All are welcome to attend!

BMCS Christmas Program: Students PreK3 – 6th grade from the Bourbonnais site and PreK4- 6th grade from the Bradley site will be performing at the BMCS Christmas Program Tomorrow, December 14 at 6pm at Centennial Chapel on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University. All families are welcome to attend!  This is a great way to begin celebrating the holidays!  Students should wear dress clothes to this event. No jeans, shirts with writing, or tennis shoes, please!  All students need to be there by 5:30 pm. They will sit with their assigned teachers until the program begins.

Please note:  All classes will be bussed over to ONU for practice on the morning of the concert (this Thursday, December 14.) Please make sure your child is dressed warmly with a coat, hat and gloves as the weather is expected to be cold.
Concert DVD Order Forms- DVD orders are now due.  Please submit by tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Mac PAC Butter Braid Fundraiser Results!: A big THANK YOU to all of our school families who participated in the Butter Braid fundraiser!  With your help, we sold over 930 Butter Braids and earned over $5,000 for our school!  Mac PAC appreciates all of your efforts and we know the money raised will make a big impact!  The kindergartners were the winners of the incentive with over 175 Butter Braids sold!  Each Kindergarten class will celebrate their victory with ice cream provided by the Mac PAC (date TBD).  As a reminder, all Butter Braid orders must be picked up on Wednesday, December 20 between 4pm-6pm at the BMCS Kankakee site cafeteria.  Sellers are responsible for pick up and distribution of their orders.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Williams at scbilladeau@yahoo.com. 

Christmas Celebrations at BMCS Bradley Site: Instead of individual classroom Christmas parties, there will be Holiday themed movie days for students to enjoy on Thursday, December 21. Parent Ambassadors are needed to help us pop the popcorn, deliver snacks to classes, and to donate movie-themed snacks for mini concession stands for each classroom. Please see the flyer to help with concession donations for your child’s classroom.

Scrip for Holidays: Using Scrip during the holidays is a great way to earn fundability for your family! There will not be any Scrip orders the week of December 24 and December 31. Grade 7 - 8 Kankakee

Volleyball: Congratulations to the 8th grade volleyball team for the win on their final home game.  They beat Watseka 15-25, 26-24, 25-23.  Kennedy Ebersole had 7 aces. 3 blocks and 2 kills.  Aubrey Ogibovic had 7 service points. Olivia Deluca had 8 service points.  The team is back in action on Thursday at Grant Park for their final regular season game.

Family Fun-a-Thon: The I-Kan Regional Office is inviting you and your family to the Family Fun-a-thon on Sunday, February 11 at Olivet Nazarene University from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Cost is $5; kids 3 and under are free! This event will have so many fun activities planned for you and your family including: planetarium shows, face painting, ice cream making, cooking corner, robotics, photo booth, archery, obstacle course, slime table, martial arts, giant games, Paul Mitchell hair creations, and so much more! Harold the Giraffe will be walking around to greet families. Concessions will be available.  All students attending may “Vote for Your School” and win the traveling trophy representing the school with the highest attendance at the event.  All proceeds benefit the I-KAN Regional Office of Education’s Life Education Center Programs.  This is NOT a school-sponsored activity.

Grade 9 - 12 Kankakee

Wrestling: Congrats to our 4 wrestelers who were at State this weekend. Andrew Steffes, Mason Sauseda, Caleb Magruder, Jake Ramirez.

Girls' Basketball: The girls' basketball team advanced to the Sectional Finals on Thursday with their victory over Morgan Park last night. The Lady Irish are one of 16 teams left in the Class 3A and will play Kankakee to advance to the Elite 8. They play again on Thursday night at 7pm at Rich East High School against Kankakee.  Pease come out and support them!

High School Course Selection: Course Selection Sheets with the proper signatures, tuition contracts, and the $150 tuition deposit for next school year are due in the Main Office. Please see your teachers and your Guidance Counselor for the proper signatures. Be sure that you and your parents also sign the course selection form.

Christian Service: Have you completed any service hours in the past few weeks? Did you call during phonathon? Help with cleaning up after Las Vegas in Bradley? Be sure to complete the Report and Reflect form found here. A reminder to seniors that your deadline for Service Hours completion is March 16.

Mrs. Valant's Classes: Mrs. Valant’s first hour should report to room 15/16 today. 2nd and 3rd will go to the library.

Student Volunteers Needed: The Dolphin Swim Club is looking for student volunteers 2/23 thru 2/25. Details are posted on the bulletin board outside the cafeteria. This would be a great fun way to get some service hours in!

Bowling: Welcome back, Bishop McNamara Bowlers!  Here are our top five for the week:

In 5th place by one point was Zeff Duffield. In 4th, Carter Silcox. In 3rd, Trey Trevino. Theo Peraki earned 2nd place. Josh Granger earned the first place finish!

Ash Wednesday Mass: Ash Wednesday Mass is tomorrow at 9:25am and we will be on a revised schedule.  Students will wear uniforms. 

Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering: The results from last week's Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering competition are in. The team will receive the 3rd place trophy. Receiving medallions for the Irish are Griffin Smith with 3rd place in Physics, Faith Provost with 3rd place in Biology, and Sam O'Connor with 2nd place in Mathematics and 1st place in Physics. Sam advances to the sectional competition in both categories!

Crush Can Sale: Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? The Around the World Club is selling Crush cans for Valentine’s Day.
