Homecoming is the perfect time for everyone to show their BMCS pride!
“My favorite homecoming memory was bringing back the homecoming parade and seeing the tradition continue! It’s such a fun and creative way for students, teachers and faculty to get involved and show their Irish pride around the community. I was honored as the 2017 Homecoming Queen and luckily for me, my date turned into my fiancé! Go Irish!”
- Riley Lade BMCS Class of 2018, engaged to Sam O'Connor, also class of '18
Who will be joining us to celebrate our traditions and show their Irish spirit?

Dominique Davis Ahramovich, a 2003 graduate, and her high school sweetheart-turned-husband of 18 years, Bubba, recalls her favorite homecoming memories: being on the Poms squad, dancing with the boys, participating in class games day, and playing in the powderpuff football game!

BMCS started our first day of Mac Buddies with our friends at Bradley West. Through the hard work and coordination of BMCS parent and Bradley West teacher, Danika Schultz, Bishop McNamara seniors and juniors partner with students from Bradley West. The program is focused on building friendships and mentoring youth in our community! We love seeing the service opportunities that our students are able to engage in throughout our community!
Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15 (Independence Day in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua) and continues until October 15. The month also includes Mexico’s Independence Day (September 16) and Chile’s Independence Day (September 18).
Hispanic Heritage Month honors Americans with roots in Spanish-speaking countries, including Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain. It was first established in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson as a week-long celebration of the contributions made by Americans from Spanish-speaking nations. In 1988, President Reagan extended it to a full month.
Every year Hispanic Heritage Month has a theme. The theme for 2024 is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”

Homecoming Week is NEXT WEEK! With an overall theme of "There's No Place Like Home", this week is sure to be so much fun! Check out our stories to see the themes for each day!

“Entering the new school year as well as my SENIOR year, I am truly excited and feeling extra grateful for those around me. I have loved every opportunity that I have been granted at Bishop McNamara. As my final year of high school begins, I cannot wait to spend the year making memories with those I love. Every FNL, volleyball game, and any other event I can be involved in is something I am looking forward to with my Mac family.”

From the Homecoming Bonfire to playing Powderpuff football, Lisa Azzarelli Gerth Class of 1980 remembers BMCS Homecoming fondly. Lisa is pictured here with High School Sweetheart, Jim Gerth '80 at the Homecoming dance.

On Friday, some of our students attended the Mass of the Hoy Spirit at St. Raymond's Cathedral in Joliet. They joined schools from around the Diocese to celebrate the new school year. Nothing is better than hearing from our amazing students. We asked junior, Reagan Kaner, about her favorite traditions and memories of High School so far.
"My name is Reagan Kaner, and I'm a junior here at Bishop McNamara. I am extremely grateful to attend this school and wouldn't have it any other way. There really isn't anything like the family and tradition this school provides. My personal favorite tradition is Homecoming Week. The bonfire, parade, football game, and Homecoming dance are substantial reminders of the years of tradition our students and staff carry on. Some of my favorite memories from high school were made during Homecoming Week, specifically memories involving my Poms team. I can't wait to see what junior year holds, and I am forever proud to be Irish."
